Shout Out for Notepad++

I have to mention this tool at some point.  It has been a godsend on many projects now since I found it a few years ago.  I've put it on every development or test box I use more than once.

Notepad++

For Windows, Mac, Linux.  Supports many languages right out of the box.

Get it from https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/

Compare (Diff) PlugIn

I don't use any of the plugins, except for the Compare (Diff) plugin.  Gives you a nice text diff of two files.

Compare does not come with Notepad++, you have to download it separately.  The Readme instructions are a little sparse about installing.  Basically you just put the .DLL (Windows) or other OS files in the Notepad++ plugins/ directory.  e.g. 64-bit Windows it goes in C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\plugins

I'm a morning person...

I'm a morning person, really I am.   I am usually in bed before the sun rises (-:
Sometimes I hear the birds chirping.

Morning People are Intolerant of Night Owls

They are, and they just don't get it.  My regular bedtime is usually about 1:00, although on long holidays or between jobs it is later. Maybe 2:00.

What is it about working on SW and Computers that seems to attract more night owls?  In College and Grad School most of the CS classes were in the afternoons.  My undergrad adviser even told me he did that deliberately, because he was a night owl too.

And during Grad School, my natural hours of get up at 10:00am, get to bed at 1:00 really worked quite well for me.

What to do?

  • Smile
  • Be Intolerant Back!  Schedule 9:00pm meetings, for the same time-zone!
  • Call your friends at 11;49pm and ask if they saw the late show monologue!
  • Send those 3:00am e-mails with pride, but don't comment on the time.  They will know and grow to fear you.

P.S. Learn to nap, 10-20 minute stretches thru the day.
